In the Laura family's project, we added a mini island in the unused part of the old mechanical room in the kitchen. Although we initially planned not to change the floor, we eventually incorporated new Spanish-style tiles, installed in stages. We also created a niche opening to the room that faces the living room, allowing those sitting at the island to see the living room entrance and letting daylight reach the living room. We addressed a complaint about water infiltration from the front façade by waterproofing both the floor and the front wall. By re-milling the 200-year-old wood and incorporating vintage pine, we renewed the flooring to suit modern use. The floor needed leveling because, in the Georgetown area, most houses are 200 years old and have damaged levels. We completed our project by painting the entire house.
